WHAT'S UNIQUE?
The South Ferry Greenmarket has the unique advantage of residing at the southern tip of Manhattan. Because it borders this magnificent borough, its Liberty-Shaped Maple Syrup Bottles are a sure hit for passers-by. The market’s prices are unrivaled by any other market I’ve seen, making it an affordable and delicious quick-stop destination.
PRICING
Great prices! The best I’ve seen at any farmer’s market.
Blueberries: $3.50/pint
Bag of Apples: $3.00
Apple Cider: $16.50/lb
Tomatoes: $2.50/lb
Rhubarb: $4.00/lb
CONVENIENCE
Great location because of the flux of people entering and exiting the Whitehall Terminal. One can’t miss the market because it’s the first sight one sees when coming up the escalator. It precedes the conventional bakery (as it should) in one’s navigation of the terminal. As people pass from the outside into the terminal, curious eyes at least admire, if not visit, the market.
ACTUALLY LOCAL?
Very local food that is all from the New York area. One farm, for example, is located in Pleasant Valley, New York.
NAVIGATION
Very easy to navigate on account of its size.
EBT Stamps Accepted.
FINAL COMMENTS
This is a convenient market in which to buy a snack, but if one is looking for groceries the selection is very limited. I don’t think the vendors are in the wrong for not selling hearty meats or vegetables, however, because no one looks for grocery shopping before or after boarding the Ferry. Plus, the time the market is open, 8 AM – 7 PM, is very effective for the people leaving for and coming from work in Staten Island or Manhattan.
